Daniela PerezThe Palm Beach PostDEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. — A four-star football recruit from Deerfield Beach High School died early Monday after a freight train struck him in Deerfield Beach, the Broward County Sherrif’s Office said.
Bryce Gowdy, 17, was a senior at Deerfield Beach, and the website 24/7 sports ranked him as a four-star prospect.
He announced his commitment to Georgia Tech as a wide receiver July 30, according to his Twitter account.
Gowdy graduated a semester early from Deerfield Beach and was expected to start classes in Atlanta on Monday, Georgia Tech said in a prepared statement.
“Our entire Georgia Tech football family is devastated by the news of Bryce’s passing,” Georgia Tech football head coach Geoff Collins said.
