The National Arts Centre has commissioned revered American composer Philip Glass to create a work for the NAC Orchestra that will honour the late Canadian-born, U.S.-based journalist Peter Jennings.
“It is a thrill and a privilege that he will be creating a new piece … honouring Peter Jennings’ legacy and scrutinizing a theme which has never seemed more important or relevant,” Shelley said.
Arna Kristín Einarsdóttir, managing director of the NAC Orchestra said the Glass commission is “already creating excitement and attracting international attention.
The son of CBC radio broadcaster Charles Jennings, Peter Jennings was born in Toronto but attended Lisgar Collegiate Institute, Carleton University and the University of Ottawa after his family moved to Ottawa.
The Jennings family is rooted in Ottawa, as well as in the U.S, and has long supported the NAC Orchestra.
